International Women's Day, which will be celebrated on Thursday, March 8, this year, kicks off a year of global advocacy, activism, and education around the social, economic, cultural, and political progress of women. The day, itself, which has a history dating back more than a century, commemorates the nascent years and enduring struggle for women's rights throughout history and around the world.
This year's theme for International Women's Day, #PressForProgress, highlights the challenges women still face in moving society in the direction of gender parity and inclusiveness.
The voices of women and advocates that are reverberating around the world and being heard so clearly and powerfully through the #MeToo and #TimesUp social media campaigns and movements are significant threads that are serving to unite women in 2018 under the banner of #PressForProgress.
As an SSND-sponsored work and in our mission at Caroline Center, we are dedicated to helping all women discover the power of their unique voices. We educate and advocate for women in the hope that their significant contributions to society can be finally and fully recognized and valued. And, we join with the women in our program, in Baltimore, and around the world in creating more just local and global communities, where women can live free from violence of every kind and where their many gifts will be allowed to flourish and better serve all humanity.
